  • Conversation with Ian

Yeah, I need to get caught up on here.

In the meantime, here is a conversation I had with Ian this weekend (he's been home sick from kidergarten with a stomach bug since Thursday):

Ian:  Mom, you have lip gloss!  How come I don't have lip gloss?

Me:  Well, Ian, boys don't usually wear lip gloss.

Ian:  (knowingly)  But *some* boys wear lipgloss.

    Me:  Well, that's true.

Ian:  Ladyboys wear lipgloss.  But there aren't any ladyboys here.

    Me:  Nope.

Ian:  Ladyboys live in Ladyboy World.

Me:  Uh...okay.  But we would be nice to Ladyboys if they came to our world, right?  Because it's not nice to be mean to people who are different.

Ian: (thinking about it)  Okay, I guess so.  Hey, you are different from me, Mom!

Me:  Yep.  Everybody is different.  That's why we have to be nice.

Ian:  Okay, Mom.  I can be nice.

  • Happy Fourth!

    truett 4th a

I am busy, busy at work and home, and haven't had time to write a proper blog post.  Still, I thought people might enjoy looking at some pictures of my Grandma (left and right photos) and one of her best friends (center) at the lake on the 4th of July, 1923.  Double-click and maximize the screen to look at the picture larger so that you can read her memories of the day.  It seems like they had a very good holiday all those years ago!  Hope my xanga friends do, too!

  • Vacation Lite

One more day at work/rehearsals, and a morning to tie up loose ends, and then Wednesday afternoon we take off for Savannah, GA for a five-day camping trip.  We're staying on Skidaway Island at the National Park, and will be puttering around Savannah, making the occasional trip to Tybee Island to hit the beach, and just generally relaxing and doing some lowkey tourist stuff.  I say lowkey, because you are not going to exactly hit the nightlife with a five year-old in tow!  But that's okay, because, honestly, I think the nightlife was the least favorite part of our last trip to Savannah.  Plus, having Ian with us usually forces us the do some sorta nerdy things that we actually enjoy.  I really don't need an Extreme Vacation!  When I hear about people going white-water rafting or mountain-climbing---well, hell, even snowskiiing, I just go, "Why the Hell would you want to do that?  That's not even remotely relaxing!!!"  Then again, some people can't believe we are going camping.  You'd never get my mother camping in a million years, she has no use for "roughing it."

Anyway, we have been telling Ian for a month that we're going camping, and he is completely psyched about it.  He says, "We are going to go camping in the woods, and have a party with the snakes!"  Not sure where he got that---I am sincerely hoping the snakes find that they have something better to do.  At any rate, I'm sure I'll have a full report and pictures when we get back.

  • We Made It!

Ian and I did Walk Now for Autism Sunday.  I ended up kicking in another $20 to get us up to an even $300.  Ian actually walked the whole 2.2 miles!  I was so proud of him!  When we got close to the finish line, he and I started chanting, "We're almost there!  We're almost there!"  I have some really cute pictures I will try to post soon.

We also made it through Clint's last show of the year.  Don't ask me how, but we did it.  Clint just has to strike the last set and make it through finals and he will officially no longer be a first-year teacher!  Give the man a hand!
